MTN and Accenture Complete ORAN Proof-of-Concept for Network Efficiency

Accenture and MTN trial ORAN technology to improve African telecom networks’ efficiency, scalability, and performance.

Accenture and MTN have reportedly successfully concluded a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) exploring the potential of Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technology in live networks across South Africa and Nigeria. The collaboration aims to revolutionize network efficiency while improving customer experiences by utilizing ORAN’s flexible infrastructure. This PoC, which included a comprehensive lab trial at MTN South Africa’s Johannesburg facility, demonstrates the potential for communication service providers (CSPs) to adapt to growing mobile traffic demands, intense market competition, and cost optimization needs.

ORAN technology provides CSPs with a scalable and flexible solution, enabling improved network performance and reduced costs. For MTN, this initiative reportedly aligns with its broader commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies to better serve its customers. By deploying ORAN, MTN is positioned to reduce total cost of ownership, create new revenue opportunities, and expand its network ecosystem.
