Author: Editorial Team

Telkom Pay in collaboration with Nedbank, MasterCard, and Ukheshe Technologies has launched a virtual MasterCard for transactions over WhatsApp in Africa.

The users of Telkom’s digital wallet service can now create a virtual Mastercard in the Telkom Pay app, which is linked to the wallet. Similar to a physical MasterCard, the virtual card contains a full 16-digit number, CVV, and an expiry date.

“We are proud to lead the way in launching the first virtual card through WhatsApp on the continent. This ensures greater financial inclusion through affordable products and services that cater to everyone and are easily accessible through a mobile device at any time.”

Sibusiso Ngwenya, Managing Executive for Financial Services, Telkom

“This digital-first solution bridges the divide by giving consumers instant access to a virtual payment solution through WhatsApp, without compromising the safety and security of transactions.”

Suzanne Morel, Country Manager for SA, Mastercard

This collaboration can enable more efficiency in Digital payments in Africa.
