Omantel and Ericsson join hands for Network enhancement
Omantel, the Sultanate’s leading telecommunications operator has signed a formal Memorandum of Understand (MOU) with Ericsson to enhance network capabilities and services according to the company’s new transformation strategy.
Talal Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel said, “At Omantel, we see ourselves as innovators and early adopters of new technology. So it is vital that we partner with companies, who can work with us symbiotically, to deliver new services and innovations for the continued evolution of the Omantel 3.0 transformation strategy. This agreement with Ericsson comes as a part of our objective to deploy new digital smart home, innovative business and eGovernment services throughout 2016 and beyond.”
Based on a shared vision to support the local entrepreneurial community and contribute to Oman Vision 2040, we collaborated with Ericsson Oman allowing the regional key role-player to contribute to Innovation Labs with thought-leadership support and knowledge from its experts. Through this collaboration we will work together to support digital transformation and innovation in the country by expanding the enterprise market’s capabilities through 5G and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Under the terms of the MOU, Omantel and Ericsson will form joint teams to collaborate on four key areas of network improvement, focusing on: deployment of intelligent network upgrades and enhancements, development of innovative fixed and mobile products and services, expansion of Omantel’s product portfolio as well as joint evaluation of potential areas for future collaboration. Commenting on the importance of the MOU, Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany, Chief Operating Officer of Omantel noted, “We have previously partnered with Ericsson in Oman to invest in nationwide network capabilities. This relationship has been a real factor behind the expansion and improvement of network coverage levels throughout the Sultanate. We believe that through mobility and connectivity services, our society can be transformed. The MOU with Ericsson represents a further step in the realization of our vision for Oman, to become a truly networked society, where every person and every industry is empowered to reach their full potential.”
