Marek Busfy Appointed as the CEO of ATC Africa

ATC Africa has appointed Marek Busfy as its new CEO in a recent announcement.

As the demand for better connectivity and digital technologies in Africa continues to surge, American Tower has a unique opportunity to position itself for an exciting era of growth, strengthen its customer-centric culture, and deliver innovative infrastructure solutions to advance the continent’s sustainable development goals. Thus ATC Africa has announced an important leadership change.

After 11 successful and memorable years at the helm, Pieter Nel has transitioned from his role as CEO of ATC Africa to the role of Senior Vice President, Transformation for EMEA & Latin America. Marek Busfy, the former COO of ATC Africa, succeeds Pieter as CEO.

Marek joined American Tower in 2012 as COO of ATC South Africa, becoming CEO in 2014 and transforming the company into a market-leading towerco. In 2018, he became COO of the Africa business where he led the execution of key strategic objectives for the region, including scaling our new build program to almost 2,000 sites a year and enabling the transition of our power operations to renewable energy sources.

Pieter has played a pivotal role in American Tower’s international business since joining the company in 2011. He oversaw the establishment and growth of nine markets in EMEA as COO of the region before being appointed CEO of ATC Africa in 2018, which currently comprises seven markets, 21,000 towers and 850 employees.

“We look forward to a vibrant and flourishing future for ATC Africa under Marek’s leadership as we advance our vision to ‘make wireless communication possible everywhere’ in a part of the world where less than a third of the population has access to the internet. We also take this opportunity to thank Pieter for his tireless dedication and visionary leadership over the past decade which saw American Tower become one of the leading towercos in Africa.”
