BSCCL Joins the SEA-ME-WE-6 Consortium

The Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited has announced that they have decided on the expansion of their country’s third submarine cable with an investment of Tk 8.70 Billion towards the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-6 (SEA-ME-WE-6) Consortium.

The SMW6 cable system is expected to have its core landing stations in Singapore, India, Djibouti, Egypt and France, with branches extending to to Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Pakistan, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, etc making the total cable length of 19,200km.

Reportedly the Managing Director of BSCCL spoke highly of the upcoming partnership with this submarine cable expected to increase the capacity from 6,600 Gbps to 13,200 Gbps.

Further reports indicated that the proposed SEA-ME-WE-6 submarine cable will be installed in the country by 2024.
