Seamless Cross-Border Merchant Payments Launched by Airtel Money and TerraPay in UAE

Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL) and TerraPay have joined forces to launch seamless cross-border merchant payments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as of July 21, 2023.

With this partnership, customers in any of the UAE’s seven emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, can now use Airtel Money at over 30,000 merchant locations for purchasing goods and services. Airtel Money serves as Airtel Africa’s dedicated mobile money platform.

Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, sees this collaboration as a timely solution for customers who engage in various activities while in the UAE, including trading, shopping, and tourism. He emphasizes that this innovation strengthens the customer value proposition.

Willie Kanyeki, TerraPay’s Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, lauds the partnership’s impact on economic development and its delivery of accessible digital financial solutions to a broader customer base. He highlights the commitment to transform lives through innovative cross-border merchants’ payments.

The collaboration between AMCUL and TerraPay showcases a strong dedication to revolutionizing financial solutions and enhancing convenience for customers. The companies aim to foster economic growth and provide accessible financial services through strategic partnerships. TerraPay, based in the UK, is a key player in facilitating this transformation.
