NEC XON Enhances Infrastructure with Hybrid Power System for Business Productivity in Malawi
African ICT solutions integrator, NEC XON, has deployed a Hybrid Power System for the Malawi Fertiliser Company (MFC) to protect its new infrastructure across Nacala, Liwonde, and Blantyre. The system is aimed at enhancing business productivity along the Nacala corridor. MFC specializes in producing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizer blends for the regional agricultural sector.
The installed solution features a 321.5kWp photovoltaic panel, a 668.8kWh Battery Energy Storage System, AC infrastructure, a 550 kVA generator, and a remotely monitored and controlled Energy Management System. The new Liwonde facility, covering 15,000m², has a bagging capacity of 2,000 metric tons per day and a production capacity of 1,000 metric tons per day. NEC XON’s Herman Viljoen, GM Renewables and Storage, highlighted the challenge of ensuring consistent, clean energy supply for the facility’s operations.
Mark Chapman, MFC Liwonde Plant Manager, praised the technology’s potential to drive efficiencies within the company. The installation underscores the importance of reliable and sustainable power solutions in bolstering industrial operations.
