Umniah Expands 5G Network Coverage to Over 700 Sites with Ericsson’s Massive MIMO Technology

Umniah, the first telecom operator to launch 5G services officially in Jordan this May, announced significant achievements in expanding its 5G network coverage. Leveraging Ericsson’s 64T64R Massive MIMO technology, Umniah expanded its coverage to over 700 sites. Within the initial month of the 5G service launch, the activated sites surpassed 300, spanning key provinces including Amman, Zarqa, Irbid, and Aqaba.

Umniah’s 5G network sites strategically cover densely populated areas, ensuring a seamless experience for subscribers. As the first telecom operator to launch 5G services in Jordan commercially in April this year, Umniah initiated coverage in Irbid, Zarqa, and Amman.

The company allocated approximately $100 million to 5G services in 2023, with projected investments expected to reach $400 million over the next five years. These funds will be directed toward devices, equipment, technologies, advertising, sales channels, and human resources to ensure service delivery and sustainability.

After securing the 5G technology license, Umniah partnered with Ericsson to spearhead the initial phase of 5G deployment. This included enhancing infrastructure, supplying compatible devices, and offering essential services like network management, system integration, and support. Furthermore, the existing 4G infrastructure was upgraded to address the growing demand for cutting-edge communication technologies among Umniah’s customers.
