Telecom Egypt and ZTE Introduce 50G PON at MWC Barcelona 2024

Telecom Egypt, the first integrated telecommunications operator in Egypt, in cooperation with ZTE, a global leading provider of information and communication technology solutions, has released 50G PON successful trial and testing at MWC Barcelona 2024.

With the demonstrated ultra fast access rates up to 43.90 Gbps downlink and 21.10 Gbps uplink, the system is compatible with XGS-PON and GPON technologies to achieve smooth evolution of FTTx.

The 50G PON will not only enhance home broadband networks, but also extend to more services such as virtual reality, cloud service, telehealth, and intelligent manufacturing. Engineer Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, sees this as a pivotal step in shaping Africa’s digital future. Bobby Chen, CTO of ZTE Middle East and Africa, emphasizes the importance of technology in bridging the digital dived in Africa.

This 50G PON successful trial and testing will be one important step for 50G PON further large scale deployment in Egypt. Telecom Egypt and ZTE will continue to promote network evolution in Egypt.
