Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates LASRIC and Cybersecurity Boards with N1 Billion Grant
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, inaugurated the Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) and Cybersecurity Advisory Board on Friday. The event at Lagos House in Ikeja was led by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who announced a N1 billion take-off grant for the boards.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized his administration’s commitment to boosting innovation through the LASRIC Seed Fund, which aims to catalyze development across the state. He highlighted that the administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda prioritizes sustainable development through science and technology.
Since its inception, LASRIC has supported over 70 projects, enhancing innovation in Lagos by 250%. The Governor outlined key responsibilities for the LASRIC board, including increased funding, collaboration, capacity building, and promoting a culture of innovation.
Sanwo-Olu praised the board, composed of experts from various sectors, and expressed confidence in their ability to achieve the state’s goals. The Governor also inaugurated the Cybersecurity Advisory Board, tasked with establishing a robust digital protection ecosystem to enhance the quality of life for Lagos residents.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Tobosun Alake, noted the administration’s ongoing efforts to advance technology and digital solutions. Chairmen of the new boards, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya (LASRIC) and Dr. Osakwe Fene (Cybersecurity), pledged their commitment to promoting science, technology, and cybersecurity in Lagos.
The initiatives aim to transform Lagos into a smart, livable, and cyber-protected city, reinforcing its position as Africa’s 5th largest economy.
