His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, visited Japan for high-level discussions with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and other senior Japanese officials to enhance bilateral relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative, focusing on sustainable economic growth.

Accompanied by His Excellency Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and His Excellency Shihab Al Fahim, UAE Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Al Jaber conveyed greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The delegation’s visit underscores the UAE’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan in energy, technology, and trade.

Dr. Al Jaber met with officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Kamikawa Yoko, Economy Minister Ken Saito, Digital Transformation Minister Taro Kono, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi. They focused on cooperation in renewable energy, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the UAE’s clean energy projects and called for increased investment in energy to meet global demand.

Significant agreements were signed, including a $3 billion green financing MoU between ADNOC and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to support ADNOC’s low-carbon solutions. An MoC on strategic reserves was also signed between ADNOC and Japan’s Natural Resources and Energy Agency to enhance energy security.

Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi emphasized Japan’s importance as a key trading partner. The UAE is the largest supplier of oil to Japan and the largest trading partner among GCC countries. The visit resulted in strategic partnerships, solidifying the UAE-Japan relationship.

In 2023, trade between the UAE and Japan totaled approximately $47.4 billion, with non-oil trade reaching $15.6 billion. The UAE remains a key trading partner for Japan within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

This visit highlights the UAE’s efforts to foster sustainable growth and enhance international cooperation, positioning both nations for continued success.
