Zimbabwe ICT Minister Promotes Digital Skills at 2024 ICDL Forum

The Hon Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Dr. T. A. Mavetera, graced the Computer Society of Zimbabwe Annual ICDL Forum 2024, emphasizing the significance of the strategic partnership between the Government and the ICDL Foundation through the Computer Society of Zimbabwe. This collaboration aims to benefit civil servants and ordinary Zimbabweans through ICDL certification, enhancing digital literacy across the nation.
Dr. Mavetera highlighted that the Ministry prioritizes ICDL certification for at least two teachers from each of the 1800 targeted schools in the program’s initial phase. This ambitious endeavor seeks to elevate the digital proficiency of educators, subsequently impacting the students they teach.
Furthermore, the Ministry of ICTPCS is set to launch a Digital Ambassadors program, ensuring that each community has digitally skilled individuals to drive technological advancement locally.
Mr. Damien O’Sullivan, CEO of the ICDL Foundation, addressed the forum, stating that with 90% of jobs requiring some level of digital skills, these competencies are no longer optional but essential. His sentiments underscore the global shift towards digital proficiency in the workforce.
The forum also saw the attendance of notable figures such as Ms. Solange Umulisa, General Manager of ICDL Africa, Mrs. Joice Benza, President of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, and Mrs. Viola Dondo, Executive Director of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, all of whom reiterated the importance of digital literacy for national development.
This event marks a pivotal step towards a digitally empowered Zimbabwe, driven by strategic partnerships and a commitment to widespread digital education.
