ARCT Implements New Regional Roaming Rates from August 2024

August 1, 2024
1 min read
Author: Aayushya Ranjan

The Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (ARCT) announces the entry into force, from August 1 , 2024, of new rates for regional roaming telephone calls and direct telephone calls to the region in accordance with the directives of Decree No. 100/202 of October, 2023 relating to Burundi’s accession to the Single Communication Network within the East African Community.

Through this regional initiative, Burundian citizens and businesses will now benefit from advantageous rates when communicating with their counterparts in other EAC member states, namely Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan.

These unique, regionally competitive rates will significantly reduce cross-border communications costs within the East African Community.

In order to ensure a transparent, reliable and satisfactory user experience, mobile network operators must clearly communicate the applicable rates for direct regional communications and regional roaming and apply detailed billing to verify the communications made and the amounts billed.
