Lagos State Government has reportedly launched a bold initiative to broaden its income tax base, targeting freelancers and influencers. The plan reportedly aims to raise N200 billion per year, contributing to the state’s ambitious goal of reaching N5 trillion in internal revenue.

As part of this strategy, Lagos will introduce a global digital citizen tax management system. This system is designed to include remote workers for international companies, freelancers, gig workers, influencers, and operators in the shared economy.

By focusing on the digital economy, the government anticipates generating significant revenue from around two million individuals. This effort reflects a strategic move to tap into the burgeoning sector and enhance the state’s financial stability.
