Zambia Allocates K22 Million for Innovation to Tackle Energy and Climate Challenges
The Government of Zambia has earmarked K22 million in grants to support innovators and inventors in developing solutions to critical challenges, including the nation’s energy deficit and climate change impacts.
Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati emphasized that the funds aim to help innovators create practical solutions to these pressing issues. By fostering creativity and expertise, the government seeks to turn innovative ideas into tangible products that address societal problems.
During the opening of the Consultative Workshop on the Development of a Generic Commercialisation and Technology Transfer Framework in Lusaka, Mr. Mutati highlighted the need for technological advancements to combat the ongoing drought and adapt to climate change. He also announced a review of the Science and Technology Policy and the upcoming Start-Up Bill, designed to attract venture capital and support small and medium enterprises.
National Science and Technology Council Acting Executive Secretary Guest Mugala affirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting innovation, noting its role in solving societal issues. The workshop has drawn delegates from eight African countries, reflecting the regional interest in advancing technology and innovation.
