Econet Wireless Modernizes 1,012 Sites, Adds 5G Plans, and Boosts AI for Enhanced Network Coverage
Econet Wireless has made significant strides in modernizing its network infrastructure through strategic partnerships with key equipment vendors. After years of limited foreign currency availability impacting investments, Econet has now successfully upgraded over 1,012 sites with 4G high-capacity base stations. Among these, 750 are in Harare, Bulawayo, and the Manicaland region, with plans to modernize an additional 550 sites across Zimbabwe. The support from the government’s telecommunications regulator, POTRAZ, has been instrumental in this progress, granting Econet spectrum within the 700MHz frequency band.
This will extend coverage to customers on the periphery of current base station ranges, ensuring wider and more reliable network access. Alongside these upgrades, Econet has added more than 50 new base stations, enhancing the quality of service and network coverage for its customers.
Econet has also embraced the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive operational efficiency and enhance customer experience. Over the past year, AI tools have been deployed to optimize business operations and personalize customer interactions. By using algorithms to better segment customers, Econet has been able to offer tailored services that have resulted in increased customer activity.
The integration of intelligent recommendation engines and predictive models into daily operations has further fueled growth, particularly in the voice segment, where a 47% increase in usage was recorded.
