Starlink Users in South Africa Report Service Disruptions Amid Regional Coverage Restrictions

South African Starlink users face disconnection due to location-based policies in Starlink’s mobile service terms.

According to resports that have surfaced Starlink users in South Africa are reportedly being disconnected from SpaceX’s satellite broadband network, raising concerns about regional service limitations. The issue appears to stem from Starlink’s terms of service, which regulate how its mobile service plans are applied across different geographic regions.

According to Starlink’s terms, users accessing the service through the “Roam” mobile plans are subject to restrictions based on their location. The “Regional” plan allows access within the continent of purchase, while the “Global” plan offers coverage in any land-based destination worldwide. However, the terms also indicate that if users access the mobile service outside their shipping address for more than two months, Starlink may require them to update their registered address. Failure to comply with this requirement, or attempting to access the service in a location not marked as “Available” or “Waitlist” on Starlink’s map, may lead to immediate suspension of service.
