The Association of Communications and Technology for South Africa (ACTforSA) last week hosted a landmark event to unveil its latest research paper on Over-The-Top (OTT) services, igniting an important conversation around the intersection of OTT growth and the sustainability of telecom infrastructure in the country. The event brought together industry leaders, network operators, and regulators to discuss how to strike a balance between fostering the expansion of OTT platforms and ensuring the viability of telecom networks that support them.

As OTT services such as streaming, messaging, and social media platforms continue to gain traction, there is a growing need to address the impact these services have on the telecom infrastructure that delivers them. The research presented by ACTforSA highlights the importance of a collaborative approach, encouraging OTT providers, telecom operators, and regulatory bodies to work together in maintaining a competitive and sustainable digital ecosystem in South Africa.
