TNM Secures License Renewal, Paving the Way for Malawi’s 5G Future
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has granted three operating licenses to Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) following a successful renewal process. The licenses were handed over during a ceremony in Blantyre, where TNM’s CEO, Michel Herbert, highlighted the company’s legacy of being the first to introduce 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G in Malawi, coinciding with its 29th anniversary.
Daud Suleman, Director General of MACRA, praised TNM’s commitment to innovation, noting the company’s leading role in the launch of 5G technology in the country. He emphasized the importance of 5G in achieving a connected Malawi, aligning with MACRA’s mission to bring internet access to every citizen.
MACRA Board Chairperson Bridget Chibwana commended TNM’s support of Malawi’s digital transformation agenda, highlighting the significance of the three newly issued licenses: Application Services, Network Facilities, and Network Services. TNM’s continued partnership with MACRA is seen as crucial to advancing digital inclusion across the nation.
TNM Board Chairman Ted Sauti Phiri expressed the company’s commitment to making a lasting impact over the next decade, focusing on connecting all Malawians and driving the digital agenda through the rollout of 5G. The renewal marks a major step forward, reinforcing TNM’s role as a key player in Malawi’s telecommunications landscape.
