NCC Reports 96% Compliance in NIN-SIM Linkage Policy

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced notable advancements in the government’s 2020 initiative to link all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs). With over 153 million SIMs now linked, representing a 96% compliance rate, the effort marks a significant leap from the 69.7% rate achieved earlier in January 2024.

As the policy reaches its final phase, the NCC urges full compliance by the September 14, 2024 deadline. The initiative plays a critical role in securing Nigeria’s digital economy, boosting trust in digital transactions, reducing fraud, and promoting financial inclusion. This effort is further supported by collaborations with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The NCC remains vigilant in addressing issues like pre-registered SIMs and cases of individuals possessing excessive numbers of SIM cards.

The commission has called on the public to ensure their SIMs are linked to their NINs and to report any unlawful activities related to pre-registered SIMs.
