The latest OpenSignal Mobile Network Experience Report for August 2024 reveals significant improvements in mobile connectivity across South Africa, with Cell C leading in several categories. South Africa’s overall download speeds increased by up to 30%, with Cell C users experiencing the largest boost, followed by Telkom, MTN, and Vodacom. Notably, Cell C claimed the top spot for Video Experience, offering the best on-demand mobile video streaming quality.

MTN maintained its dominance in the 5G sector, winning the 5G Video, 5G Games Experience, and 5G Availability awards. MTN’s 5G users spend 11.5% of their time connected to an active 5G signal, the highest in the market. Although MTN scored highly in 5G Games Experience, the report highlights room for improvement, with its winning score of 40 points out of 100.

Vodacom stood out for Consistent Quality, winning the award for the third time in a row, with a 65.6% score, ensuring a reliable experience for demanding mobile applications like video calling and social media uploads.

This report emphasizes the competitive landscape among South African mobile operators, with each showing strengths in different areas of the mobile experience.
