Huawei Donates Equipment for 25 Communication Towers to Enhance Zambia’s Telecom Infrastructure
In a significant boost to Zambia’s telecom infrastructure, Huawei has donated equipment for the construction of 25 communication towers across the country. The donation, which includes wireless and transmission technology power systems, was formalized during President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to China in September 2023 and later solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Technology and Science in June 2024.
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati announced that Zamtel, a leading telecom provider, will oversee the construction of these towers in remote areas where access to phone services remains limited. This initiative aims to ensure that all Zambians can benefit from essential government services and improve their overall quality of life.
Zamtel CEO Jason Mwanza emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in promoting financial inclusion. By partnering with government programs like the Social Cash Transfer and Farmer Input Support Program, Zamtel is working to extend its services to all corners of Zambia, including the most underserved regions. This collaboration marks a critical step in bridging the digital divide in the country.
