TCRA Suspends Mwananchi Communications’ Online Media Licenses Over Prohibited Content
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has suspended online media service licenses issued to Mwananchi Communications Limited, covering its platforms The Citizen, Mwananchi Digital, Mwananchi, and Mwanaspoti. This follows the publication of prohibited content on social media on October 1, 2024, which allegedly breached the country’s regulations on online content.
As a result, TCRA has suspended the online media licenses of Mwananchi Communications Limited for 30 days, effective from October 2, 2024. During this period, the company is required to halt its online media operations in Tanzania. The suspension is in place while other regulatory actions are being considered.
