Arabsat at IBC 2024: Shaping Digital Transformation Through Satellite Technology Across Africa & Beyond
At IBC 2024, the Founder and Chief Editor of TechAfrica News, Akim Benamara, had the opportunity to engage Alhamedi Alanezi, CEO and President of Arabsat, in an insightful conversation, discussing the satellite giant’s latest advancements and strategic direction. During the interview, Alanezi emphasized Arabsat’s long-standing presence at IBC, noting that the company has participated in the event for over two decades. He discussed how the company is transforming its recent strategies into concrete products to serve customers across broadcast and data services. With the recent internal transformation at Arabsat, he also emphasized its strategic approach to rebranding from a purely Arab-focused company to a multinational, multicultural organization and promoting gender inclusivity in its operations.
He also shed light on the dynamic nature of the satellite industry, particularly the rise of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, and how Arabsat is navigating the challenges presented by innovations such as software-defined satellites, evolving its operations and expanding into multi-orbital systems like LEO, GEO, and MEO to stay ahead.
There’s been a tremendous shift in the space industry—particularly with LEO satellites, GEO, satellite design changes, and software-defined satellites. The delays in these areas have impacted many players, including us, and it places us in a situation where we must figure out how to execute our GEO strategy with new satellites, and how to penetrate the multi-orbital space. But despite these challenges, it’s rewarding.
