Zambia Enforces ICT Regulation to Combat Cyber Crimes and Restore Sector Confidence
The government has signed the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) statutory instrument Act 2018, outlining general regulations and professional ethics for the sector.
Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati stated the move aims to “restore order and sanity” in the sector, plagued by cyber crimes and masqueraders.
I’m hopeful this SI will eliminate industry trolls and restore public confidence.
Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science
He emphasized government commitment to reviving order in the sector, crucial for economic growth.
SMART Zambia Institute’s National Coordinator, Mr Percy Chinyama, highlighted the importance of registering all ICT professionals.
He also expressed concern over the rise of negativity on social media, where some individuals insult others with impunity.
The culture displayed on social media does not reflect who we are as a people. We can no longer ignore this, as it reflects poorly on our country.
Mr Percy Chinyama, National Coordinator, SMART Zambia Institute
ICTAZ President Mr Clement Sinyangwe welcomed the regulations, anticipating robust compliance exercises ensuring IT practitioners maintain standards.
