The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) has uncovered 20 material irregularities within Limpopo’s public sector, encompassing issues in procurement, resource management, and compliance, as well as misuse of public resources and cases of fraud. Despite these challenges, corrective actions by auditees resulted in preventing R70 million in financial losses, with an additional R20 million recovered during the 2023-24 financial review period.

The AGSA team, led by Head of Audit Bongi Ngoma, Head of Portfolio Tlamelo Ramantsi, and Business Unit Leader Stephen Kheleni, presented these findings to Limpopo’s provincial executive committee, headed by Premier Phophi Ramathuba. In response, Premier Ramathuba underscored her administration’s commitment to strengthening financial oversight and accountability across provincial departments. She noted that the persistence of similar audit findings over consecutive years points to the need for robust corrective action and a proactive approach to financial management.
