Ethio Telecom Hosts Annual Cyber Security Awareness Program to Enhance Digital Resilience

Ethio telecom hosted its fourth annual October Cyber Security Awareness Program, with the theme coined as “Build Cyber Resilient digital ecosystem at our company level and with “Critical Infrastructure Security for Digital sovereignty” at national level.

The main objectives of the cyber security month/program are to create a collaborative effort to “build cyber-resilient digital ecosystem” among stakeholders, build digital trust by enhancing the sector players’ inclusive collaboration in fraud and cybersecurity issues, introducing information security compliance certification programs, embedding information security as an institutional culture. In addition, the program is aimed to introducing Ethio telecom’s tele cloud and other digital services like managed security service Provider (MSSP) for demanding organizations.

Ethio telecom organized its fourth annual cybersecurity awareness program with the presence of various stakeholders such as Palo Alto, Cisco, Huawei, Whale Cloud, Kenera International Trading and IE Solutions, start-up businesses as well as financial institutionsregulatory bodies, government & educational institutions and medias so as to raise awareness of Cyber security among the digital society and protect sensitive information from threats.

The major agendas of the event/program are Current Cybersecurity Landscape, Common Cyber Threats, Pillars of Cybersecurity, share best Practice of cybersecurity with stakeholders.

The cybersecurity Awareness Program is essential for protecting against financial cyber-fraud, building digital trust among customers, fostering a culture of information security compliance within organizations. It will raise awareness of issues such as account takeover, internal fraud, subscription-based fraud, identity theft, SIM swap fraud, money laundering, social engineering and other similar cyber threats or fraudulent activities.

Cybersecurity is no longer just a concern for individuals and institutions. Since cyberattacks become more complex and sophisticated globally, it can pose a threat to national security issue. Therefore, everyone should work together to address the challenges of cyberspace.

In general, to assure the protection of organizations from cyber threat, it requires the cooperation and coordination of all stakeholders in addition to making a proactive measure like a regular awareness programs, implementing security policies, process, procedure, proper security control in place, updating all aspects of the controls, regular back-up mechanism and monitoring systems for suspicious activity.
