Kenya Champions Digital Transformation with Local Smartphone Manufacturing
Kenya’s ICT PS Eng. John Tanui underscores government commitment to digital transformation through local smartphone manufacturing, emphasizing collaboration to enhance accessibility and economic growth.
The Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy Eng.John Tanui has emphasized the government’s commitment to digital transformation through the manufacturing of Smart phone devices.
Eng. Tanui who spoke while delivering his Key note address during the Smart Phone for Africa Summit noted that the emergence of the semiconductor industry and local companies like East Africa Device Assembly Kenya (EADAK), positions Kenya to undergo a transformation similar to that experienced by successful Asian economies like Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore.
The PS noted that the Summit serves as a collaborative platform that brings together government officials, industry leaders, and innovators with the goal of improving smartphone accessibility and promoting local manufacturing across Africa.

Eng Tanui further called on all ICT stakeholders to actively engage with the government to address obstacles and ensure that all citizens benefits from digital transformation.
