Orange, MVola, and Airtel Money raised alarms over a 0.5% tax on mobile transactions, warning it could increase costs, burden citizens, and harm businesses and cash agents.

Orange, MVola, and Airtel Money shared their concern through social media about the potential impacts of the new tax on their users.

The post stated multiple examples of transaction costs and how the costs could intensify financial strain on users.

Money Transfer

    • Current Fee (App): 1,200 Ar
  • With 0.5% Tax:
    • Tax Added: 1,250 Ar
    • New Total Fee: 2,450 Ar
    • Increase: 104%
  • Current Situation:
    • Amount Sent: 500,000 Ar
    • Current Fee (App): 1,200 Ar
  • With 0.5% Tax:
    • Tax Added: 2,500 Ar
    • New Total Fee: 3,700 Ar
    • Increase: 208%

Payment Transactions

  • Current Situation:

    • Current Fee (App): 1,000 Ar
  • With 0.5% Tax:
