Artificial intelligence is transforming the landscape of data centers in Africa, with our Delphys XL, we offer technology that not only protects critical loads but also optimizes energy use, reducing environmental impact and operational costs.

As the African data center market experiences unprecedented growth, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G, the need for resilient energy solutions becomes more pressing. In this article, Francisco De La Torre Ramos, Africa Specification Manager at Socomec , delves into the transformative impact of AI on data center operations and how innovative technologies like the Delphys XL  UPS are addressing these challenges.

The data center market in Africa continues to grow rapidly, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.65% until 2029, supported by the spread of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G.

This expansion necessitates reliable and resilient energy infrastructure management to ensure operational continuity and prevent downtime, especially in contexts with frequent network fluctuations.

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems are therefore essential for the stability of data centers and to support the growing load of AI applications and data processing.

Francisco De La Torre Ramos, Africa Specification Manager at Socomec, explains the strategic importance of these solutions for Africa: “Artificial intelligence is transforming the landscape of data centers in Africa, requiring UPS solutions that ensure continuous and secure protection of operations.

With our Delphys XL, we offer technology that not only protects critical loads but also optimizes energy use, reducing environmental impact and operational costs.”

Delphys XL: Efficiency and Resilience for Artificial Intelligence

Delphys XL is designed for large-scale data centers, with power reaching up to 1.2 MW, ideal for supporting advanced AI applications that require enormous computational resources and continuous stability.

Thanks to online double conversion technology, Delphys XL ensures that loads are completely isolated from network fluctuations. “We’re already aware of increasing challenges in handling HPC (High Performance Compute) load profiles due to their fluctuating nature,” explains Francisco “rapid load cycles, voltage instability, and the long-term impact on equipment and battery lifespan are being flagged as concerns by operators already coming up against some of the complexities that AI can present.”

In case of a blackout, the switch to emergency power is immediate, thus guaranteeing uninterrupted protection.

Francisco adds: “Our Delphys XL was developed with the latest generation technological components to monitor all energy parameters in real-time. The integration with artificial intelligence will allows faults to be predicted and maintenance to be optimized, ensuring that data center managers can maintain operational continuity without interruptions.”

A specific algorithm developed for Delphys XL allows continuous monitoring of performance, environmental conditions, and load, as well as various sensitive parts. Predictive maintenance is designed to prevent anomalies and plan corrective interventions in a timely and effective manner.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

Delphys XL offers energy efficiency of up to 97% in online mode and 99% in “Smart Conversion” functionality, significantly reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The high-performing algorithm within it intelligentially choses which mode to use optimizing the efficiency without compromising the protection of the load. Additionally, compatibility with next-generation batteries, allows for further reduction of environmental impact and operational costs while maximizing UPS lifespan.

Socomec as a Trusted Partner for Digital Africa

Socomec is committed to supporting African data centers not only with advanced UPS solutions but also as a strategic partner for digital development. With Delphys XL, Socomec contributes to Africa’s technological future, supporting digital transformation and enabling data centers to support artificial intelligence with reliability and resilience.

In conclusion, with the support of Socomec and innovative solutions like Delphys XL, the African continent is ready to establish itself as a digital center of excellence, capable of embracing the era of artificial intelligence with a solid and sustainable energy structure.
