Airtel Uganda and K2 Telecom renewed their transformative partnership, blending innovation, culture, and community-focused initiatives to empower and connect Uganda.

Airtel Uganda and K2 Telecom Uganda marked the renewal of a significant partnership that has played a pivotal role in the empowerment and transformation of Uganda and beyond. This renewed collaboration aims to strengthen the relationship, ensuring continued innovation and growth for both companies and the communities they serve.

At the press conference, Omuk. William Sekabembe, K2 Telecom Board Chair, highlighted the key factors driving the contract renewal. He emphasized the alignment of interests between Airtel and K2 Telecom, which had fostered mutual success over the years. Notable achievements included surpassing 2 million subscriptions and successfully negotiating an increase in brand loyalty.
These accomplishments were a testament to both companies’ commitment to a long-lasting and productive relationship.

Soumendra Sahu, Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director, shared his excitement about his first few weeks in Uganda. He spoke about the evolution of communication in Buganda, from the traditional drum—symbolizing identity and power—to modern technologies like Voice over LTE, which allowed for high-quality calls over a data network. Airtel Uganda and K2 Telecom were proud to be at the forefront of connecting communities with technology that enhanced both communication and culture.

The partnership between Airtel and K2 is more than just about connectivity; it is about empowerment. Initiatives such as the Masaza Cup for youth empowerment and the Kabaka Run, which advocates for the fight against HIV/AIDS, are key milestones in their efforts to make a positive impact on society. Technology should serve people, tell their stories, and promote sustainability for future generations.

– Soumendra Sahu, Managing Director, Airtel Uganda

Oweek. Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa, the 2nd Deputy Katikkiro, reflected on the strong partnership between K2 Telecom and Airtel, which had flourished since 2018. He pointed out the growth in both business and community impact, noting that the partnership had brought dividends and set the stage for even more innovation in the future.

For Oweek. Charles Peter Mayiga, Katikkiro of Buganda, the partnership with Airtel was about more than just business. It was about connecting with the vibrant Buganda community and supporting the values that were deeply rooted in the culture of the people.

Businesses must use their profits to support the community’s values, and when people feel connected to a business, they embrace it wholeheartedly. This partnership was built on the shared understanding that business and community must thrive together.

– Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro (Prime Minister), Buganda Kingdom
