Zambia prepares to launch an open-source eKYC system using MOSIP, marking a significant step in its digital transformation journey.

Zambia is set to launch an open-source Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) system, powered by the Modular Open-Source Identity Platform (MOSIP). This initiative underscores Zambia’s commitment to digital transformation and overcoming barriers to modernizing public infrastructure.

Despite challenges like limited funding and reliance on vendor-locked solutions, Zambia has achieved remarkable progress with the support of the Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure (CDPI) and Co-Develop. The SMART Zambia Institute, under the leadership of National Coordinator Percy Chinyama, has played a pivotal role in ensuring coordinated government efforts toward the project’s success.
