Tunisie Telecom partners with Medusa for a 20 Tbps fiber-optic link, boosting Tunisia’s digital connectivity and regional integration by 2026.

This Friday, February 7, the national operator Tunisie Telecom has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Medusa Submarine Cable System.

The agreement covers the supply and operation of a dedicated fiber-optic link between Bizerte and Marseille, with a capacity of 20 Tbps, based on the latest submarine cable technologies. The deployment in the western Mediterranean is set for 2025, with completion expected in early 2026.

The contract was signed by Mr. Lassâad Ben Dhiab, Chairman and CEO of Tunisie Telecom, and Mr. Norman Albi, CEO of Medusa, under the high patronage of Mr. Sofiene Hemissi, Minister of Communication Technologies, along with the working group responsible for negotiating the agreement, at the headquarters of the national operator.

On this occasion, Mr. Sofiene Hemissi praised the national operator’s efforts to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and provide connectivity to all citizens across the country’s regions. He highlighted how this initiative contributes to enhancing Tunisia’s digital sovereignty and improving its regional and international ranking in the digital sector.

We are particularly proud to take part in the trans-Mediterranean digital connectivity project. By connecting our fiber-optic infrastructure to this Mediterranean system, Tunisie Telecom will provide more innovative and secure solutions to better meet customer expectations while contributing to the development of Tunisia’s digital ecosystem.

– Mr. Lassâad Ben Dhiab, Chairman and CEO, Tunisie Telecom

Minister Sofiene Hemissi highlighted the importance of this collaboration, recognizing the efforts made to enhance Tunisia’s telecommunications infrastructure. He emphasized how this initiative contributes to reinforcing Tunisia’s digital sovereignty and improving its regional and international ranking in the digital sector.

We are excited to welcome Tunisie Telecom into the Medusa ecosystem. This partnership strengthens Tunisia’s connection to Europe and beyond, supporting the creation of new, high-capacity routes across the Mediterranean to ensure diversity, security, and scalability for operators and businesses in the region.

– Norman Albi, CEO, Medusa and AFR-IX telecom

With a span of over 8,700 km, Medusa will connect the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea, creating a new corridor for global data traffic. This strategic infrastructure will ensure the highest quality and security for Tunisia’s international connectivity, complementing the country’s existing submarine cable links: PEACE, SeaMeWE-4, Didon or Hannibal system.

This agreement marks a significant step in Medusa’s mission to redefine digital connectivity in the Mediterranean, reinforcing its role as a key player in bridging Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
