SMART Zambia’s Network Project Enhances Public Services and Connectivity
SMART Zambia completes 12 GWAN sites, enhancing government connectivity. Final last-mile connections by ZAMTEL will unlock full digital service potential.
SMART Zambia’s Principal ICT Officer for Western Province, Enoch Moonde, has confirmed that works on the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) have been completed in several districts, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance digital connectivity and improve communication among government institutions.
He explained that the completed works cover a total of 12 sites, including Luampa District Commissioner, Mitete Town Council, Limulunga Town Council, Limulunga District Commissioner, Sioma District Commissioner, Sioma Town Council, Mwandi Town Council, Mulobezi District Commissioner, Mulobezi Town Council, Nkeyema District Commissioner, Nalolo District Commissioner and Nalolo Town Council.
The GWAN project is a critical component of Zambia’s digital transformation agenda, aimed at providing a secure, reliable, and efficient communication network for government institutions.
The network is expected to improve the delivery of public services, enhance transparency and accountability, and promote economic development.
However, Moonde noted that the completion of the project is pending the finalization of last-mile connections by other stakeholders, including ZAMTEL.
