Streaming Tax on the Table as SA Seeks SABC Lifeline

South Africa is considering a streaming service levy to fund SABC, as Minister Solly Malatsi confirms the proposal in parliament.

Multiple reports have confirmed that the South African government is considering new funding models to secure the financial stability of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) including the prospect of introducing a levy on both local and international streaming platforms.

The reports further confirm that the Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi disclosed the plans during a recent parliamentary Q&A session.
