Ericsson’s award-winning 5G programmable network enhances connectivity with AI, automation, and open APIs, driving innovation, efficiency, and new business models.

At the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC25), Ericsson’s 5G Programmable Network was honored with the GTI Annual Award for Mobile Technology Innovation Breakthrough. This recognition highlights the widespread industry and GTI’s acknowledgment of Ericsson’s advancements in 5G programmable networking.

More than 200 high-performance 5G networks have been deployed globally, and operators are looking to maximize their potential to improve returns on network investments. In the 5G-A era, Ericsson aims to help operators build high-performance, programmable networks to enhance 5G capabilities, support large-scale 5G-A innovations, meet diverse consumer service demands, transform business models, and create new value.

Ericsson’s programmable network is built on three core capabilities: differentiated connectivity, AI-driven and intent-based automation, and open network capabilities. Differentiated connectivity supports various business applications while precisely matching their specific needs, ensuring a consistent, predictable, and reliable experience. AI-driven, intent-based automation enhances network intelligence, enabling operators to innovate and deliver services more efficiently. Open network capabilities allow developers to dynamically access 5G resources through standardized API interfaces, fostering new application development.

Ericsson is committed to delivering end-to-end solutions for programmable networks and has launched 10 5G-Advanced software products and 13 hardware products that support programmable networking. These innovations will play a key role in helping operators transition their networks toward fully programmable architectures.

Ericsson’s programmable network has received widespread industry recognition and has been deployed by leading operators, including AT&T, Swisscom, Telstra, and MasOrange. At the 2024 World Internet Conference, Ericsson’s programmable network was honored with the “World Internet Leading Technology Achievement” award.
