NCA and ASCOG discuss protecting Ghana’s undersea cables, emphasizing risk prevention, public awareness, and long-term resilience for digital infrastructure.

The Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, received a four-member delegation from the Association of Submarine Cable Operators of Ghana (ASCOG), led by its Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng on Friday, 28th February, 2025 at the NCA Tower in Accra.

The visit aimed to congratulate Rev. Ing. Fianko on his appointment and discuss technical, operational, and strategic challenges concerning the undersea cable system.

At the meeting, NCA and ASCOG discussed the necessity of establishing protective measures to guard the undersea cables against potential damage since concerns persist over dangerous sea activities.

The meeting emphasized the importance of public education, in collaboration with other stakeholders, to raise awareness about risks and proper navigation practices. This initiative is essential to addressing challenges and ensuring the long-term resilience and growth of the undersea cable system.

The meeting ended on a forward-looking note, with both parties committing to ongoing engagement. It was agreed that future collaborative sessions with stakeholders will be crucial for enhancing protection measures, conducting comprehensive surveys, and strengthening public and industry awareness of cable-related risks.
