M-PESA Safaricom launched a developer portal in Mekelle, providing open APIs, tools, and support to foster fintech innovation and strategic partnerships.

M-PESA Safaricom is bringing exciting new opportunities to the tech community in Mekelle. In December, M-PESA Safaricom introduced a developer portal designed to allow developers to integrate seamlessly with M-PESA through an open API.

During the event, the speakers provided valuable insights into how the Dev Portal empowers developers to create smooth and impactful financial solutions. The developers Ermiyas Solomon and Zelalem Gizachew walked the students through the developer portal, emphasizing that it’s more than just an API hub the call the portal a gateway for developers to innovate and scale their fintech solutions.

Abel Agegnehu the product lead also shared that the portal has been enhanced to provide a better developer experience, with improved documentation, tools, and support. Kifle H/Eyesus – executive head of partnership highlighted that, beyond awareness, strategic partnerships are being built to promote fintech adoption and foster greater developer engagement. The developer segment manager Betelhem Teshome also emphasized the crucial role open APIs play in shaping the future of fintech.

The event was a resounding success, and we’re excited to see students taking their first steps in fintech development. Moving forward, we’re focusing on tracking the progress of these developers to see how many successfully go live after the event. Additionally, we plan to expand the initiative to other regions to increase awareness of the developer portal and make it widely recognized.
