South Africa Moves to Scrap Smartphone Luxury Tax

According to the report, the National Treasury has said that this is towards boosting digital access for low-income households.

South Africa’s government plans to eliminate the 9% luxury excise duty on smartphones priced below 2,500 rand ($136.37) starting April 1, Reuters  has reported.

According to the report, the National Treasury has said that this is towards boosting digital access for low-income households.

Reuters’ report further mentioned that the current ad valorem excise duties on smartphones are charged at a rate of 9%.
