BoFiNet completed P100M network upgrades via citizen-owned comapnies, boosting Botswana’s digital capacity and empowering local ICT companies through skills transfer.

Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet ), a 100% Government-owned company, has recently completed  two (2) strategic projects to expand its network capacity and resilience in Botswana and upgrade the internet gateway from London, UK and Johannesburg, RSA to Botswana. These projects were both awarded to 100% citizen-owned companies, Hexaract Network Experts (Pty) Ltd and Comsoft (Pty) Ltd, at a combined value of over P100million (one hundred million Pula).

Speaking at a media engagement to announce completion of the projects recently, the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BoFiNet, Mr Mpho Koolese, said the company is very proud of its track record of empowering citizen-owned companies in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and telecommunications, having grown its portfolio of citizen contractors by almost 70% over the last 10 years.

We are committed to working with citizen-owned companies as we believe that they are capable of delivering high-value, high-impact projects. Beyond empowering them financially, BoFiNet is making signicant contribution to the growth of the local telecommunications and ICT sector by developing skills and offering citizen companies direct experience, which is essential for building their businesses.

– Mr. Mpho Koolese, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BoFiNet

When speaking at the media engagement, Mr Thebe Makgetho, Customer Experience Director at Hexaract Network Experts (Pty) Ltd expressed immense gratitude to BoFiNet for the ongoing partnership and empowerment of citizen companies.

This partnership has allowed us to grow, not just economically but technically too. Through our engagement in the internet gateway project, our engineers received advanced skills transfer, hands-on migration experience and direct exposure to implementing high- availability internet infrastructure solutions at scale.

These projects have allowed us to contribute meaningfully to Botswana’s digital evolution; they have also demonstrated that Batswana have the expertise, innovation and determination to build and manage world-class infrastructure that powers the future.

– Mr Thebe Makgetho, Customer Experience Director, Hexaract Network Experts (Pty) Ltd
