MICT resumes oversight of Telecom Namibia; inaugural meeting with Minister Theofelus focuses on alignment, digital priorities, and advancing national connectivity.

Recent changes in government and the reconfiguration of administrative responsibilities, has resulted in MICT resuming its oversight mandate of Telecom Namibia . Given this, Telecom Namibia’s Board of Directors and Executive Management, joined by its subsidiary’s (Powercom) Board and Executive team, met with the Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Hon. Emma Theofelus (MP), today, April 23, 2025, at the Telecom Namibia Head Office, Windhoek.
It was the inaugural quarterly meeting as part of the Ministry’s engagements with public enterprises under its purview, which now includes Telecom Namibia. This is to ensure alignment with national objectives and strategic business priorities. This followed the discussions centered on strategic matters concerning Telecom Namibia, aligning expectations, and exploring collaborative efforts to advance Namibia’s digital transformation agenda.

Telecom Namibia welcomes the opportunity to engage with the MICT Minister and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the national vision for a digitally empowered Namibia. We believe that close collaboration with the Ministry is essential to maximize our contribution to the nation’s development, in the areas of network modernisation that Telecom is currently embarking on; rolling out national 5G services and fiber projects; and to improve on quality of service.

– Dr Stanley Shanapinda, Chief Executive Officer, Telecom Namibia
