Airtel Uganda Expands Rural Network to Boost Digital and Financial Access
Airtel Uganda launches and upgrades rural network sites, advancing digital inclusion and financial access for farmers, youth, and students nationwide.

Over the past two days, Airtel Uganda has made significant strides in promoting digital inclusion across the country. The company launched new network sites and upgraded existing ones to provide faster, clearer connectivity in rural communities, ultimately enhancing access to digital and financial services.
Airtel staff visited multiple regions, including Western Uganda, with stops in Kashongi Village and Kyenshama Village in Kiruhura, Ibanda and Mbarara Districts, as well as Central Uganda, where new masts were launched in Kiryanongo and Ntunda Villages, Kiboga.
During her address to the community in Western Uganda, Ms. Annet Baguma , the team leader for the region, emphasized Airtel’s commitment to improving digital access. She explained that the launch of these masts is designed to provide a Crystal Clear And Faster service, driving economic transformation through digital inclusion.
Now more than ever, the youth are using technology to trade, and we are also seeing an uptick in older persons transacting digitally. These new masts will breathe new financial life into our communities.

In Kiboga, Mark Mukiibi , Head of Data and Devices at Airtel Uganda, echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the centrality of digital access to Airtel’s mission. He stated,
A stronger network will empower farmers to transact online, purchase fertilizers digitally, and help students access online learning resources. It’s about improving lives through digital financial services.

The launches were met with support from local leadership, who recognized the importance of a reliable network in driving digital transactions. Kizza Charles, Chairman of LC3 Kashongi Subcounty, expressed gratitude for Airtel’s commitment, noting the significance of uninterrupted network services for digital transactions. “Sometimes you want to pay via Airtel Money but hear that the network is down. We welcome this advancement,” he said.
The Airtel teams, including Annet Baguma (Warehouse and Logistics Manager), Mark Mukiibi (Head of Data and Devices), Lukanga Fahad (DM), Joel Lutalo , ACIM (Trade Supervisor), and Jjuuko George William (Business Manager), are proud to have brought these improvements to rural Uganda.
