Malawi Telecom’s CEO Dr. Harry Gombachika Announces Retirement
MTL CEO Dr. Harry Gombachika will retire on May 19, ending a decade of transformational leadership and strategic growth.
The Board of Directors of Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) has announced the retirement of Dr. Harry Gombachika as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 19th May 2025.
Dr. Gombachika was appointed as CEO on 6th January 2015. Over the past decade, he has provided visionary leadership that has played a pivotal role in transforming MTL into a resilient telecommunications provider. Under his stewardship, the Company has made significant progress in operational turnaround, embraced digital transformation, and strengthened its strategic positioning within the Malawian telecommunications sector.
The Board expressed its sincere appreciation to Dr. Gombachika for his dedication, distinguished service, and the impactful legacy he leaves behind. In particular, the Board recognized his instrumental role in steering MTL through major restructuring initiatives and aligning the Company to capitalise on future opportunities.
The Board has initiated a formal succession process, and a new CEO will be announced in due course. The Board remains committed to ensuring a smooth leadership transition while maintaining the Company’s strategic focus on delivering quality service and sustained value to all stakeholders.
