GSMA Africa and BUSA will host a webinar to discuss mobile technology and policy reforms driving South Africa’s digital transformation.

GSMA Africa , in partnership with Business Unity South Africa , will host a webinar  titled Driving Digitalisation of the Economy in South Africa on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. The session will run from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. SAST and focus on the role of mobile technology in accelerating the country’s digital transformation.

The webinar will also highlight the importance of progressive policy reforms in unlocking growth across key sectors of the economy. Stakeholders are encouraged to join the conversation to gain insights into digital opportunities and regulatory pathways.

The event builds on GSMA’s Driving Digital Transformation of the Economy in South Africa report, launched in November 2024. The report examines the economic impact of mobile technology and models the potential of policy reforms in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and healthcare.

One key recommendation, outlined in Policy Scenario 4 of the report, calls for the prioritisation of financial inclusion by removing the mobile money levy and easing restrictions on mobile money charges. The South Africa report follows similar launches in Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Benin.
