TRC Report: 5G Subscriptions Soar by 800% in One Year

TRC’s Q4 2024 report shows 800% growth in 5G subscriptions, rising mobile broadband, and steady fixed internet usage across the region.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC-Jordan ) published its fourth-quarter 2024 statistical report on its website.

Indicators indicate an increase in fifth generation subscriptions, an increase in the number of mobile communications subscriptions to reach 8,046 million subscriptions compared to 7,727 million subscriptions for the fourth quarter of 2023, and an increase in the number of Internet subscriptions to reach (812) thousand subscriptions compared to (805) thousand subscriptions for the fourth quarter of 2023.

Fixed voice services:

The total number of subscribers to fixed voice communications services amounted to about (486) thousand subscriptions for the fourth quarter, compared to about (493) thousand subscriptions for the fourth quarter of 2023, with a decrease rate of (1.4%). The household sector represents (67%) of the total and (33%) for the commercial sector.

Regarding the volume of telephone traffic consumed by subscribers via fixed telephones, the report indicated that about (11.3) million minutes of communication were recorded during the fourth quarter compared to about (10.7) million minutes of communication for the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (6%), including local landline telephone traffic between governorates and international telephone traffic with countries of the world, distributed on local telephone traffic at a rate of (85%), and (15%) of minutes of communication for international telephone traffic.

Mobile broadband services:

On the other hand, the report indicated that the total number of mobile broadband subscriptions reached (8.046) million subscriptions compared to about (7.727 ) million subscriptions for the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (4.1%), distributed over (69%) prepaid subscriptions and (31%) postpaid subscriptions, while the percentage of (voice and data) line subscriptions reached (84%), and data line subscriptions only reached (16%), while the volume of mobile voice telephone traffic reached about (7.37) billion minutes, distributed over (97%) locally and (3%) internationally, and the number of text messages sent reached about (576) million text messages compared to about (260) million messages in the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (122%), and the penetration rate of mobile phone subscriptions until the end of the fourth quarter of 2024 reached (69%) according to the total population, compared to (67%) for the quarter The fourth of the year 2023, with a prevalence rate of (106%) according to the number of people over the age of 15 years.

The volume of data usage through mobile broadband services amounted to about (658) million gigabytes in the fourth quarter, compared to about (580) million gigabytes in the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (13%).

Fixed broadband internet services:

Regarding fixed broadband internet services, the report indicated that about (812) thousand subscriptions were registered compared to a total of (805) thousand subscriptions in the fourth quarter of 2023, where the growth rate reached (0.8%), and a penetration rate of (33.4%) for the number of households for the fourth quarter of 2024. In contrast, broadband internet subscriptions using ( FBWA ) technology recorded a rate of (17.9%), while the percentage of internet service subscriptions using ( xDSL ) technology reached (8.8%), and the percentage of fiber technology subscriptions reached (72.8%) at the end of the fourth quarter, where fiber internet subscriptions reached a total of (591) thousand subscriptions during the fourth quarter of 2024.

The volume of fixed broadband data usage amounted to about (1,339) billion gigabytes for the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to (1,161) billion gigabytes for the fourth quarter of 2023, and the growth rate reached (15%), with a monthly average of fixed Internet usage amounting to (550) gigabytes per subscription, which was about (481) gigabytes in the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (14%).

Regarding 5G mobile subscriptions

The report indicated that the number of fifth-generation mobile subscriptions continued to rise significantly in the fourth quarter of 2024, reaching a total of (112,900 ) subscriptions, compared to the third quarter of the same year, which amounted to about (70,422) subscriptions, with a growth rate of about (60%), and a growth rate of 800% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.

Leased line services:

The report indicated that the number of leased line service subscriptions reached (24,143) thousand subscriptions at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to (20,539) subscriptions in the fourth quarter of 2023, with a growth rate of (17.5%).
