Zamtel launches 4G/5G network in Chalala, enhancing connectivity for residents and businesses, advancing digital inclusion, and supporting Zambia’s digital growth.

Zamtel  has launched the 4G/5G network upgrade in Chalala. Minister of Technology and Science, Honourable Felix. C. Mutati, MP, graced this special event. He said it’s a new dawn for the Zambian Government that Zamtel continues to break new ground based on this strategic launch. Zamtelhas now moved from Insolvency and is now making profits. The modernisation and upgrade of the 4G/5G network in Chalala will drive growth and help empower the highly enterprising people in the community. The launch of the Chalala site will be replicated in other areas within Lusaka and indeed the country at large.

The launch of 4G/5G in Chalala is part of the first six hundred (600) sites which will be rolled out in the phase one project, and this will bring about faster speeds and more reliability to the area. This upgrade seeks to address the connectivity gap. According to the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA), as of 2024, only 53% of Zambia’s population has access to Mobile Broadband, with wide disparities between urban and rural areas. As the entire Lusaka enjoys relatively higher coverage, areas like Chalala still face congestion and suboptimal speeds due to inadequate infrastructure.

The 4G/5G upgrade will bring access to digital services such as E-Learning, E-Health, and E-Commerce. It allows for improved browsing and online experiences, better performance of multimedia apps, and greater support for E-Commerce, Smart home systems, and digital entrepreneurship. The Network upgrade witnessed aligns with the government’s agenda of digital inclusion and ensuring that every part of the country has access to reliable and high-speed connectivity. Zamtel has made available special data offers that new customers will enjoy upon joining the network, and so the residents of Chalala are urged to join the home-grown network and experience the improved speeds that have come with the network upgrade.

The Chalala community happens to be one of the fastest-growing residential areas in Lusaka. In addition to that, Chalala has many business outfits open in the last few years and therefore provides opportunities not only for network operators but also for manufacturers and wholesalers of fast-moving goods as well.
