Ghana's Girls-in-ICT 2025 program to train 3,000 girls in Volta, Upper East, and Upper West, promoting digital skills and inclusion.

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation’s Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) committee has started  work ahead of this year’s training in three regions. They are; Volta, Upper East and Upper West regions. Each region will host 1,000 girls for in-person training sessions.

The Chief Director of the Ministry, Alexander Yaw Arphul who chaired the meeting indicated that the Girls in ICT program in Ghana is aimed at empowering young girls and women in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This program is part of Ghana’s broader efforts to promote gender equality and boost women’s participation in technology sectors.

The program is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Resolution 70. The objectives of the initiative are;

  • Promote STEM Education: Encourage young girls to take up studies in sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Bridge Gender Digital Gap: Support the education of women and girls in ICT to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
  • Expose Opportunities: Provide mentorship workshops and open-day programs to expose girls to opportunities in the ICT sector.

The program is celebrated annually on a regional basis to give equal opportunities to women and girls across the country.
