JBS and Google Launch Cybersecurity Training Program to Tackle R2.2 Billion Annual Loss
South Africa launches a Google-backed cybersecurity training programme to upskill youth and protect SMEs, addressing major cybercrime-related economic losses.

South Africa loses an estimated R2.2 billion each year to cybercrime, yet faces a critical shortage of cybersecurity professionals. In response , the Johannesburg Business School (JBS) at the University of Johannesburg, in partnership with Google.org , has launched the Cybersecurity Seminars Programme.
The initiative will train 100 unemployed graduates and matriculants from underserved provinces, equipping them with key cybersecurity skills. These newly trained professionals will then assist 125 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in strengthening their digital defences — a strategic move to enhance the country’s digital resilience and economic security.
