Namibia’s ICT Ministry meets with service providers to plan upgrade from 2Mbps to 25Mbps as mandated by SADC broadband directive.

The Ministry of ICT’s Executive Director, Audrin Mathe, convened  a meeting with service providers and industry stakeholders to discuss the implementation of SADC’s  new broadband speed directive. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called on member states to adopt minimum broadband speeds of 25 Mbps for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads.

Namibia’s current minimum broadband speed is 2 Mbps, prompting consultations on how to align with the regional standard and improve national connectivity. The discussions mark a key step toward enhancing digital infrastructure and competitiveness across the country.
