May 28, 2025
1 min read

The service, launched as part of Airtel Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to protect customers from fraudulent and unwanted communications, analyzes traffic patterns to detect suspicious activity.

Airtel  Nigeria reported that its AI-powered Spam Alert Service identified more than 9.6 million potential spam messages between March 13 and May 20, 2025. The service, launched as part of Airtel Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to protect customers from fraudulent and unwanted communications, analyzes traffic patterns to detect suspicious activity.

During the two-month period since the service’s introduction, the AI system flagged 528,080 on-net (Airtel-to-Airtel) SMS and 9,138,928 off-net messages originating from other networks as potential spam. These figures highlight both the scale of spam threats in the Nigerian telecommunications space and Airtel’s capability to deploy advanced technology for customer protection.

The Spam Alert Service aligns with Airtel Nigeria’s broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence into its operations, aiming to provide safer and more intelligent communication experiences across the country.
